Rogue left back Alexandro Bernabei seals Celtic departure

Alexandro Bernabei has completed his departure from Celtic. The left-back departs to join SC International on a loan until the end of 2024 after a disappointing spell at Celtic.

Celtic signed the full-back from Argentine side Lanus in a deal worth £3.75m; however, the Argentina U23 was unable to displace Greg Taylor under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers and faded away.

The player has made just 28 appearances for Celtic in 18 months with the vast majority coming from the bench. The appearance against Killie, where Bernabei didn’t jump and Watson netted a late equaliser, was the last straw for Celtic boss Rodgers. The player was presented with a chance under Rodgers at the start of the year but weak (and erratic) defending led to him being bombed and a departure was expected.

The club will be in the market for a left-back in the summer to compete with Taylor but it won’t be Bernabei as it is likely that he has played his last game for the club. Celtic will need to hope that Taylor stays fit else Liam Scales, Tony Ralston and Mitchell Frame will need to deputise in the run-in.

  1. This situation has been an embarrassing situation within the club all season?
Even moreso when it wasn’t addressed whatsoever?
Think the majority of us knew bernie was never going to make it at our club?
Even Rodgers omitted him from the CL squad, so his future was always in doubt from the start of the season?
Yet nothing was done regarding the position, and has been the case for the whole season?
Why such time delays upon the position and still without a solution is a disgraceful way for ourselves to be operating?
Even Taylor hasn’t had a good season to date in the position either imo?
The decision making within the club has been way beyond a joke this season, and still hold Rodgers massively responsible for his own involvement in the decision making also imo?
I doubt bernie would have been involved in any match day squad until the end of the season, as long as AJ, Taylor and Ralston stay fit?
What now is the potential solution if any of them 3 should pick up a injury in any of the remaining games?
    Scales as a possible LB?
On current form and haven’t seen him play a decent game yet in the position?
Was the timing of this decision and without any real solution just another to add to the season of ridiculous decision making to date?
    I think so anyway

So over the winter break we were all crying out for left back cover. What happens ? We do nothing about it. Our first choice left back is injured so we play our second choice. He gifts wraps two dropped points to rangers ( ie their current advantage ) with the concession of a late goal to Kilmarnock. Solution ? Move him on leaving even less cover for full back. As far as logic is concerned, Dr. Spock would be spinning in his grave.
