Rugby Park – ‘The state of that pitch,’ ‘Threadbare or Shagpile?’

CELTIC posted this image of Rugby Park today and although the club focussed on the weather – it’s a Beautiful Sunday! – the supporters comments below are all directed towards the absolute state of the artificial surface.

It is typical of Scottish football that we allow this pitches in our Premier League and we have three of them at Kilmarnock, Hamilton and Livingston.

This season I’ve decided NOT to attend games at these three grounds. We’ve not played on the new Livingston plastic yet but by all accounts it is the worst of the lot.

You just never seem to get a decent game on these pitches and although the Killie fans have responded to their manager this year, you will still see empty spaces there today.

Rangers lost a player to long term injury on this pitch a few weeks ago and Celtic have players who simply don’t play in it. We also saw both Boyata and Ajer injured here the last time were down and that was a dreadful game.

Here are some of the comments…

“I’ve seen better artificial grass on a market greengrocers stall.”

“Marvellous this pitch,” (followed by a wee crying face!”

“FFS. That by far the worst pitch. Expect it is unpredictable and bobbly today.”

“Sh*te pitch – sunshine doesn’t make it better!!!! Griffiths better be starting today as well.”

“Sunglasses for the glare off that disgraceful pitch at the ready.”

“Pitch looks a bit Carpet Rite quality to me.”

“Worst pitch in Scotland. Shouldn’t be allowed.”

“What condition is the pitch? Threadbare or Shagpile?”

“The sun glaring off the plastic pitch. It’s like in the winter when the sun glares off ice. Same affect makes them look like glass.”

“That’s pitch is a scandal!!” Yass pitch is like a carpet today!! Oh wait, it IS a f*cking carpet.”

“Actual state of that pitch.”

Anyway, here’s today’s team…
