‘Ryan Christie who is the best player around. Anyone disagree?’ David Potter

THIS day started well and got better. The unfurling of the flag was a piece of Celtic class with the two widows of two great heroes invited to do the job. And how they were appreciated by the support! And full marks to the Green Brigade for their banner from the Coronation Cup song! Those who do not remember their past have no future!

But this Celtic team have a great future, it appears to me.Seven great goals and a hat-trick from Ryan Christie who, I’ve said before, is the best player around. Anyone disagree?

Mikey Johnston is also fast developing as a class act. His goal was superb, and the others were not bad either. How nice to see Olivier and Griff brought on, as it were , to score a goal.

I liked the look of Elhamed, but the pick of the defenders was Ajer, which is not to denigrate Bitton or Boli or even Ralston. It was really a tremendous team performance of Celtic at their best and if we can continue to play like this, there seems little to stop us making it 9 in a row.

But it has to be said that St Johnstone are very poor and already have a relegation look about them. I saw them last week losing to Forfar as well!

Mr Clancy had a very quiet game with a few questionable decisions but nothing really serious and was really hardly noticed.

A good start to the season. More difficult tests await in Romania and Motherwell next week, but one has to be confident after today’s performance.

Neil Lennon answered his doubters once and for all as his aggressive, attacking football blew St Johnstone away in the opening day of the new Scottish Premiership season.

Celtic scored seven goals, all from open play and could easily have gone into double figures. The football at times was sensational, and in the opening stages the debut Bhoy Hatem Abd Elhamed looked an exceedingly competent addition to the side, on three occasions getting past his man to cross from the bye-line only to see Edouard twice and Christie miss glorious chances….continue reading HERE.
