Safety first – Brendan Rodgers should bench Kyogo at Rugby Park

With the injuries starting to really mount up at Lennoxtown once again, it makes tomorrow’s trip to Rugby Park in the League Cup that bit more tricky for sure. With Oh Hyeon-gyu, Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers definitely sidelined, the team can ill-afford anymore first-team players to be missing for crucial fixtures in the weeks ahead.

Taking all this into consideration, Brendan Rodgers should perhaps not risk Kyogo Furuhashi on that abominable playing surface in East Ayrshire. The last thing we need at this point is our talismanic striker to be out missing for any sustained period of time with an injury. It’s happened before and we missed him severely.

Yes, it would be great to breeze past Killie and into the next round of the League Cup, however, we need to look at the longer game with this season in mind. The winners of this year’s Scottish Premiership title go straight into the UEFA Champions League group stages next season again, and with a potential £50 million or so on the line, it’s essential it makes it’s way to Paradise.

Therefore, Rodgers should consider playing Daizen Maeda through the middle on Sunday and play Yang Hyun-jun wide-left. Maeda is better through the centre anyway and Yang looked superb when he came on against Aberdeen last weekend. He’ll be itching to show the manager and the Celtic supporters what he is all about and what he can bring to this already talented squad.

Unleash Yang and let Kyogo pull up a pew for this one. And if he’s needed then the Japanese striker can always come on if we need a goal.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. So yet again another one (Paul Gillespie) slates Killie’s “abominable” pitch
Would this be the pitch that Ange stated, after Celtic’s last game there, that Celtic played some.of their best football of the season on it
    Check it out in YouTube
    As for the injuries
    You should check the facts
There is absolutely no evidence, that suggests more injuries occur on synthetic pitches
If there was, why would all the major teams train on it
Over the week, they are on it more than grass
If you check, you will see that there have been more serious injuries at every ground in The Premiership, than Rugby Park
    Look at Leo Messi
He said this week, when asked about having to play on astro, that it was absolutely no problem adjusting to it, as most players now, grew up playing on it
I thought all this stuff was usually spouted by Rangers, but you lot are getting just as bad now
You have a brilliant team which will easily win the League
Forget about getting excuses in early, just in case
For some reason a lot of your fans have a downer on Killie
Some even call them mini huns FFS
As a Catholic, I find that ridiculous and offensive
You should look more closely when we play them
No love lost there, that’s for sure
Also check the number of time Killie have got results against Rangers, which has helped your team
I see that you are a student
That is great, as you sure have a lot to learn

    • Not one player or manager has complained about astro turf parks that are well looked after, but rugby park is like an old carpet totally in need of replacement. As for you to mention what religion you are is shocking.Celtic fc is open to every religion muslim protestant, jewish to name just a few. Also at celtic park i sit or stand by fans of every religion from all over the world hail hail get your facts sorted.
