Save The Hoops Bar: An Appeal To Salvage One Of The Gallowgate’s Most Famous Celtic Pubs

The Gallowgate is area that is synonymous with Celtic Football Club and Irish culture. The street has been home to some of the most famous Celtic pubs over the years, none more so than The Hoops Bar.

Covid-19 has hit the hospitality industry extremely hard and this fact, combined with a business support funding issue, has meant that The Hoops Bar is now under threat. A crowdfunder page has been as a last ditch attempt to save the establishment and the ownership have issued the following plea:

Like many small business, particularly those in the hospitality industry, we at The Hoops Bar have suffered extreme financial hardship due to the pandemic and have been reliant on the frankly insignificant government support provided. We have not been given the additional grants that we were entitled to despite others in the industry being fully supported in recent months. If the situation does not resolve soon we will be forced out of business completely. We have been let down by The Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and have been told that people are “looking into it”. This uncertainty means we are in very real danger of being evicted before funding comes through. This is why we are asking you, The Celtic Family, to help save The Hoops and be part of the community that brings our business back from the brink. Please donate what you can, and if you can’t donate please share the link and video far and wide. We may have lost the league, but with your help we won’t lose The Hoops, and we will be back to watch the league flag fly over Celtic Park again. Hail Hail.

Few venues provide a more authentic Celtic experience. Indeed, the Hoops is a shrine to the club with paintings of Celtic greats on each wall, regular live music from bands performing songs of Ireland and Celtic, whilst the Bar has hosted several events for Celtic-related charities.

Offering a tremendous atmosphere, drinks at an affordable price, and a location just a short walk from Paradise, this traditional Celtic pub is well worth saving. It has even featured on popular shows such as Copa90’s documentary covering the experience of attending Celtic Park on a European night!

All donations will be hugely appreciated Neil and the Hoops Bar team, who uploaded the following video to social media yesterday afternoon.

Let’s ensure that the Gallowgate remains a hub of Celtic history with traditional bars for the next generations of Celtic fans to enjoy as part of their matchday experience!
