What should have been a proud moment for Celtic striker Daizen Maeda, was somewhat sullied due to some appalling behaviour from the so called ‘best’ group of international supporters in the world…
Daizen was handed the captain’s armband for his country’s FRIENDLY clash in his adoptive home city of Glasgow, and despite being subbed with the score still goalless, he had the last laugh as he watched his teammates snatch a victory thanks to a late Junya Ito strike.
Daizen, despite having a quiet game, was instrumental for the blue Samurai as he gave a true leader’s performance without being spectacular, and as usual ran himself into the ground with a battling display on the right hand side of the pitch.
A disappointing day for Scotland
However, it was a disappointing night for Scotland who despite putting up a spirited showing fell to defeat, which isn’t ideal with the World Cup finals on the horizon, and a few disgruntled fans let their feelings be known at full time, with more than a few boos heard ringing round the home of Scottish football.

More disappointingly, a lot more boos where aimed in the direction of Daizen Maeda, who was constantly heckled by the Tartan Army throughout the ‘friendly’ clash.
Why was that? Could the sole reason be none other than the shirt he wears on club duty? Most likely, and it’s a major stain on the Scottish supporters who are usually commended for their gracious attitude.
The ethos of Scotland Shame’s runs deeper in our society that many people are comfortable about admitting. It’s Scotland’s dirty little secret.
In the end Daizen had the last laugh. He has won a stack of medals during his time in Scotland, and has left Hampden more often than not as a winner. Last night was yet another one of those successful occasions. With his family present, and with the honour of wearing the armband for his homeland he nevertheless gets heckled by elements of the Tartan Army.
Well done Daizen, and shame on every one of the Scotland supporters who shamefully singled him out for having the audacity to wear the green and white Hoops at club level.
Hopefully it puts fire in Daizen’s belly for the remaining games of the season, and very likely the remaining eight or best still nine remaining games of his Celtic career as he goes out like the winner is usually is, just like yesterday where it ended with Daizen victorious.
