Scotland U17s begun their UEFA u17 European Championship campaign with a 3-1 loss to holders France on Wednesday.
France opened the scoring five minutes into the match through Yanis Allssoufou of Ligue 1 side Montpellier, but the killer blow came on the stroke of half time with France adding a second. A Rory Wilson goal in the second half was not enough as France grabbed a third through an own goal by defender Ruari Ellis of Kilmarnock.
However, it could have been worse for the young Scots with goalkeeper Rory Mahady of Leeds United saving two penalties which could prove vital in terms of goal difference for Scotland’s remaining games.
Celtic’s Kyle Ure and Mitchell Frame both started the game and played the full 90 minutes for Brian McLaughlin’s side. Ure has featured nine times for Celtics B team in the Lowland League with Frame appearing for Celtics u18s and scoring in the 6-5 victory over Rangers in the Scottish Youth Cup final this season.
The Scots face Portugal in matchday two on Saturday which is sure to be another extremely tough test.
