Scott Bain heaps praise on Fraser Forster for League Cup heroics

SCOTT BAIN has heaped praise on his goalkeeping colleague Fraser Forster for his heroics in the 2019 Betfred Cup Final. Celtic won through a Christopher Jullien goal but it was the man at the other end of the pitch that had to be thanked for an incredible performance across 90 minutes.

The Englishman rejoined the club in August last year in a loan deal from Southampton and quickly became number one, ahead of Bain and Craig Gordon. It has been a fruitful homecoming for the big goalie with a number of fine performances since returning. However, there is one that sticks out in particular – the League Cup final.

Not only did Forster make at least a dozen impressive stops that were goal bound, he also saved Morelos’ penalty as the Celts made it a 10th trophy in a row. Speaking to the Celtic podcast, Bain hailed his teammate and his performance that day.

“As a goalkeeper, you appreciate that performance massively. I remember watching the game from the stands that day and thinking, this is an unbelievable performance, and one of the best you’re going to see on such a big stage.

“We were thankful to have him, to get away with the win and to lift the cup. Fraser was fantastic that day. Once Rangers got the penalty, and once Fraser saved it, you thought, that’s it, it’s game over, they’re not going to get past him today. Since then, he’s been phenomenal.”

In case you have forgotten Forster’s heroics, here is every save from that match.
