Scott Brown explains current situation and reveals his future plans

Scott Brown has spoken for the first time since he terminated his contract at Aberdeen, explaining the situation and speaking about his plans for the future. The former Celtic captain left Pittodrie just this week after new manager Jim Goodwin made it clear to the midfielder that he would no longer retain the same player-coach role he had enjoyed previously under Stephen Glass.

In various articles over the past few days I have wrote about Scott’s situation, explaining that his old manager Brendan Rodgers is willing to hand his former Celtic captain a chance to gain coaching experience in the Premier League with his side Leicester City.

On top of that, current Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has also insisted the door will always be open to him to return to Parkhead, although my own personal opinion on this is that at the moment this option is unlikely to suit either party and therefore won’t materialise.

Today is the first time we have heard from Brown himself, and ever the professional he thanked everyone involved at Aberdeen for their help and support since he arrived there in the summer. He then goes on to state that it has been a whirlwind few days and that he is going to take some time to consider his options and spend time with his family.

He wrote on Instagram: “Hi all… Last season, I was given the opportunity by Stephen and the board at Aberdeen Football Club to take the next step in my football career- continuing to play the game that I love whilst gaining hands-on coaching experience.

“Unfortunately the season didn’t go as well as we had hoped, and with the managerial change at the club, the opportunity to both play and coach wasn’t there anymore. After speaking with Jim and Aberdeen, we decided it was best for us to part ways.

“Firstly I would like to thank Stephen and the Board for giving me the opportunity and for the incredible support that you have shown me in the short time I spent at your club. To Allan, Henry and the rest of the backroom staff I enjoyed working with you and I leave you with my best wishes for the future.

“To the players, I have seen the character, the hard work and determination that you put in day after day on the training pitch and I hope that it brings you, and everyone at the club, success in the future.

“To the fans, I know I was only with you for a short time but thank you for welcoming me to your club, and to your city. The support I received from you everyone, from the terraces to meeting you around the city was unbelievable. Thank you! Aberdeen is a huge club and every one from the board, staff and players are determined to bring you success both on and off the pitch.

“It has been a whirlwind few days and I am going to take some to time to consider all my options and relax with my family. I am sure I will get a few rounds of golf in as well.

“Thank you and until we meet again.”

Celtic fans will always have a special place for Scott Brown in their hearts and he will always be regarded as a legend after leading Celtic through one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Wherever he ends up I have no doubt he will go on to be a huge success and hopefully, when the time is right, we will see him make a return to the club and continue delivering the success he became used to as a player while at Celtic Park.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!
