Scott Robertson set for January exit as no new contract on offer at Celtic

Scott Robertson has been told by Ange Postecoglou that he will not be offered a new contract at the end of this season when his current deal expires and the midfielder is now expected to leave Celtic in January.

Scott Robertson started in the Europa League Group stages match against Cluj in December 2019

The 21 year-old midfielder is not going to be short of offers with St Mirren and Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town already being quoted as being interested in huis signature.

Robertson recently travelled to Australia with Celtic and has been part of the first team squad this season but has not had any competitive minutes. He returned to Celtic in the summer after completing a series of successful loan spells at English lower league clubs Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers and most recently Crewe.

As a highly-rated teenager Scott Robertson was given his senior debut by Neil Lennon in away to CRF Cluj in a Europa League Group match in December 2019. With no prospect of any game-time at Celtic Robertson will seek an early exit and Celtic are unlikely to be unsympathetic with a number of English league one sides likely to be interested in his signature.

It’s a tough task for young home-grown players to break into The Celtic first team and for Scott Robertson it looks like a move away, perhaps to join up with his former Celtic captain Scott Brown at Fleetwood Town, is the best thing for his career.

We certainly wish him the very best of luck.
