Scott Robertson’s season is over as talented midfielder returns to Celtic

Scott Robertson has returned to Celtic in order to recover from an injury sustained while on loan. Robertson joined Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan deal at the end of the summer transfer window. The young central midfielder had spells at Gillingham and Doncaster Rovers but Ange Postecoglou elected to send him back to EFL League One to get more game time. He made 23 appearances but Crewe Alexandra confirmed that he would be out for the rest of the season following a successful operation.

The 20-year-old has been with the club for over a decade having progressed through the Celtic Youth Academy and into the first-team squad. However, he will hope his progress with Crewe Alexandra will set him up to make a claim for a space in Postecoglou’s side for next season. Scott Robertson made his first-team debut in the 19/20 season in Romania in the final Europa League group stage match against Cluj in the Europa League and was a stand-out for Celtic in that game.

It will be interesting to see Robertson’s next step. Potentially a move in Scotland could benefit him as a means to knowing the league; although, he may yet return to League One to continue his progress.
