Celtic will face Rangers twice more before the end of the season and the Ibrox club will have to do so without talisman Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian missed the game at the weekend with a thigh injury and now, there is confirmation that his season is over.
This means that he will miss the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden next weekend as well as the fourth Glasgow Derby in the league. Kemar Roofe started at Ibrox at the weekend and he was bullied by Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt as Celtic’s backline comfortably subdued Van Bronkhorst’s side.
It is something of a shame that the backline won’t be able to show off their dominance against Morelos, who Rangers supporters seem to believe would have made the difference against Ange’s robust side at the weekend.
Morelos left Rangers to link up with the International camp with Colombia but a thigh injury has ruled him out of their games. This means that Morelos is a doubt for the game against Ange Postecoglou’s side on Sunday. The 25-year-old returned to Glasgow in order to begin his rehab with a view to making the game at the weekend but images surfaced on social media to show he was worse for wear. Rangers confirmed that the player had visited a specialist and had gone under the knife.
Ange Postecoglou will likely be unmoved by the news surrounding Morelos as he focuses on his own team as he targets a Treble in his first season in Scotland. Giovanni Van Bronkhorst, meanwhile, will be hoping to fend off the doubters as he tries to hang in a job beyond the end of the season.
