Celtic legend Scott Brown has emerged as a shock contender for the St Mirren job if Jim Goodwin completes the switch to Aberdeen. According to a sensational report by The Daily Record, The Buddies are already sounding out The Dons about an approach for their team captain should the deal to take Goodwin from Paisley be completed.
The news from the North East was that St Mirren had granted permission for talks to take place between The Dons and Goodwin with a view to replacing Stephen Glass. It now appears that Brown could feature in these conversations as St Mirren eye a new manager. Goodwin is expected to agree a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Dons with the Pittodrie club holding no reservations about letting Brown speak to The Saints.
Glass managed to convince Brown to move from Glasgow’s East End to the North East in the summer with a view to taking on a player-coach role. Although after a Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Motherwell last weekend resulted in Glass being shown the door. After 22 trophies with Celtic, Brown left Celtic to reunite with his former Hibernian teammate Glass at Aberdeen. With Glass out the door now, he may fancy a return to the central belt and potentially becoming a manager in his own right.
It will certainly be an interesting one to watch.
