SFA confirm referee and VAR officials for Celtic v Hearts clash

The SFA have confirmed the refereeing appointments for Celtic’s game against Hearts on Saturday. The Jambos make the trip along the M8 to face the Scottish Champions as they look to arrest their poor form so far this season.

Colin Steven has been appointed as the referee for the game and will be assisted by Frank Connor and Calum Spence. Meanwhile at Clydesdale House, Alan Muir is on VAR with Graham McNeillie assisting.

Steven has only taken charge of one Celtic clash before, back in the COVID season as Neil Lennon’s team beat Hamilton at an empty Celtic Park. The whistleblower will be relishing the chance to take charge at Scotland’s finest stadium.

The appointments come just days after Head of Refereeing Willie Collum came out and analysed decisions where VAR had been involved. One decision that VAR had been incorrectly used involved Celtic’s opening game of the season in which Kyogo was sent flying by Robby McCrorie, the Kilmarnock goalie. Greg Aitken on VAR said that the ex-Rangers keeper was just making himself big but replays showed this not to be the case and the review confirmed Celtic should have had a spot kick.
