SFA hit both Celtic and the Rangers with £7500 fine for Mass Confrontation

CELTIC have been fined £7500 along with the Rangers for their part in the shoving match at the end of the recent Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park.

The Rangers had Morelos sent off for elbowing Scott Brown, then Ryan Kent escaped a red card for punching the Celtic captain straight in the face after James Forrest had scored the late winner, Andy Halliday also received a red card in the tunnel by referee Bobby Madden and the Rangers’ substitute goalkeeper, Wes Foderingham was shown a yellow card for ripping the shirt off Mikael Lustig who also picked up a yellow card presumably for laughing in their faces.

The Celtic players were celebrating their win when the Rangers players took offence and started what was no more than a pushing and shoving incident.

The Scottish FA desperately tried to pin something on Celtic and concocted a charge of ‘Not acting in the best interests of Association football’ – this however got nowhere when Celtic’s captain arrived at his hearing with one of the top Sports Law QCs in the country.

It was a case of Scottish FA 0 Celtic 1 (Brown) – but the governing body weren’t prepared to admit defeat just yet. Now they have pinned a £7500 fine on Celtic, for basically being pushed and showed and also hit the offenders with the same amount of punishment.

Still with Celtic turning over £100million and year and sitting with more money in the bank that the Rangers turn over in a year, the financial punishment will be a minor matter to the Parkhead power-brokers.

Over at Ibrox though they’ll be a little more concerned about writing a cheque for £7500 to the Scottish FA for the bad behaviour of their players at Celtic Park.
