‘Significant Change’ Promise from Postecoglou as Norwich £3m short on Celtic’s Asking Price for Ajer

Ange Postecoglou gave an update on the transfer situation after the 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the first of the pre-season friendlies as his era as Celtic manager gets underway. Speaking to Sky Sports Celtic’s Aussie gaffer promised signings and gave an update on squad exits as his rebuild work continues at a steady pace behind the scenes.

“I think there’ll be significant change. There’s been a pretty big turnover in players from last year. A lot have left and we need to bring in some. Whenever that happens, that’s significant change and also we’ll probably play a little bit differently to what they have in the past. Whether it’s a rebuild or just a shift in direction, it will be significant change for sure,” Postecoglou stated.

Asked about whether the various Celtic want-aways are likely to stay or be sold Ange reckoned that remained uncertain at this stage. “I’m not really sure. I’m not in control of that. All I can do with the ones that are here right now and training with us is treat them as part of the family. If some leave, then they do and hopefully at the same time we get some new ones in.

“Kris (Ajer) is a first class professional and fantastic player. I’d like to keep them all but again, those things are out of my control.”

Asked if he’s speaking to Swedish defender Carl Starfelt as a straight replacement for Ajer – still linked with Norwich with a £3m gap in their top price compared to Celtic’s asking price the current state of play – Ange was clever in his response.

“I’m not talking to anyone. We’ve got multiple targets and there’s a lot of names being thrown around. From my perspective, it’s about making sure that we do bring in some players that can play the football that I want over the next period.

“The club’s working awfully hard to try and make that happen. All we can do is work on a daily basis and make sure we’re as prepared as we possibly can be.”
