The 18 year-old has been Celtic B’s go-to man this season both domestically in the Lowland League and in the UEFA Youth League.

Cummings’ contract with the Hoops expires at the end of this season and according to reports, the forward could depart his boyhood club for a cross-border compensation fee of €310,000 in the summer.

Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly left Celtic

It was only last season academy graduates Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly exited the club in pursuit of a career down south. In previous years Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison left for Bayern Munich. Should Cummings leave, he would just add to the long list of promising young talents that Celtic have failed to keep.

For far too long, that ‘pathway’ has been non-existent

Brendan Rodgers should be trying to convince Cummings to remain at Parkhead. It is imperative the Celtic boss uses the pathway for promising players featuring for the B team into the first team environment to gain that experience at senior level. For far too long, that ‘pathway’ has been non-existent.

Meanwhile, Cummings has scored doubles in two of Celtic B’s UEFA Youth League games this campaign. Grabbing a brace against Slovan Bratislava in Stephen McManus team’s emphatic 4-0 victory in September kickstarted an impressive Champions League phase for Cummings thus far. On Tuesday, he netted two once more in Celtic B’s impressive 3-2 win over RB Leipzig at The City Stadium.

Eye-catching European performances

Eye-catching European performances are drawing interest from Premier League clubs. 18 goals in 17 games is a terrific goalscoring record at any level, and Rodgers should be doing everything in his power to tie Celtic’s next upcoming star on a lengthy contract.

  1. At this stage of Cummings career, the decision making regarding his contract, possibly wouldn’t have to much to do with Rodgers imo?
We created a position for Darra odea to create a pathway for our youngsters, to get to 1st team squad standard?
Hasn’t been to fruitful for ourselves in many years now, even though this homegrown quota is still causing ourselves problems with fulfilling the requirements for putting a 25man squad in place?
Weather Cummins wants to potentially follow the pathway set out for himself, remains a totally different matter altogether?
The bar is set at a very high standard currently for a lot of players to even get within our squad at present, even if there remains room in a far areas of the squad still, especially with the homegrown quota requirements?
But at least we are trying to finally address the situation as a club?
But plenty of work still required to bear fruit for ourselves, and maybe Cummings could be the breakthrough youngster, we have been waiting an eternity for?
Yet we will never know, if he follows suit of so many youngsters lately, who think they have a better chance elsewhere of forming a decent career for themselves?
Yet just how many have been successful in taking the different pathway, to the one that we can offer still?
