Yesterday could have been a tricky one for Celtic after our ten men mauling in Madrid, but we more than made up for it by trouncing a sorry Aberdeen side, who themselves were also on their travels midweek earning a respectable 2-2 draw in Greece against PAOK.
That trip to Greece showed as they looked leg weary and never posed a serious threat to the Champions, with Joe Hart essentially having the afternoon off in the Celtic goals. The visitors looked a poor side indeed, I was expecting a much tougher challenge from Barry Robson’s side who remember won comfortably at Ibrox not too long ago.
That said as poor as the Dons were, Celtic were simply outstanding from start to finish. This was the best performance I’ve seen from the Hoops all season. Especially the first half, it was near on perfection. Everything was sublime. The passing, the movement. We had drive and energy. This was Brendanball in full flow.
Yang opened the scoring with his first goal for the club after a wonderful assist by man of the match Luis Palma, the Honduran added a further two assists and of course scored from the spot. Both he and Yang were superb.
It was good to see Kyogo also getting back on the scoresheet although it was worrying to see him go off after a nasty, horrible head injury, but fingers crossed he makes a full recovery. Incredibly that challenge was deemed to be no more than a yellow card and where was VAR?
His replacement Oh of course scored a brace in added time to add to the under appreciated David Turnbull’s fine finish to give the Champions a scoreline it more than deserved.
Three points was the most important thing, but to do so by putting on our best performance of the season was the icing on the cake. If we play like that in Rome and maybe our Champions League campaign is not over after all!
