Sky Sports man claims Celtic will need to pay £6m for defender

Sky Sports News’ Anthony Joseph has said that Celtic will need to pay £6m to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur. Much like Jota, Celtic signed the USA Internationalist on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent. Now, Joseph is saying that the Celts will need to pay a premium for the defender, who will have just a year remaining on his Spurs deal come the summer.

However, there have been reports in the past saying that this fee is closer to £3m with Spurs exercising another year on the player. The central defender has been solid since arriving, striking up an impressive defensive pairing with Carl Starfelt.

Celtic are believed to be planning a few acquisitions from the J-League in January as well as exercising the option that they have on Jota. It is a struggle to believe that Celtic would pay £6m for the defender when these outlays would represent a significant portion of the budget. Ange Postecoglou’s side would gain the riches of the Champions League should they win the league with an automatic place at the top table of European football.
