Sky Sports man gives League Cup Final update

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has revealed that Hibs interim head coach, David Gray will be taking charge of the team on Sunday afternoon at Hampden Park against Ange and the Bhoys.

The Sky man delivered the update amidst a flurry of reports that ex-Celtic winger  Shaun Maloney would be announced as manager today. These reports also added that he could be joined by another former Celtic player in the form of Gary Caldwell, who used to play for Hibs before moving to the Hoops under Gordon Strachan.

However, it seems now that those reports were wide of the mark. Maloney and Caldwell may very well be heading to Hibernian FC in the near future, but it looks as though it won’t be in time for Sunday’s first showpiece of Scottish football this year. The Hibees did well to breeze past theRangers in the semi-final, and Celtic could do well to bear in mind the threat that they still carry in Martin Boyle – especially on the counter-attack.

Whilst it is a welcome bonus that Maloney’s football brain won’t be in the dugout come Sunday, we should nevertheless remain focussed and determined to win that first silverware of Ange Postecoglou’s reign as manager. It could be difficult without any recognised striker but that’s how football is sometimes. We still have an abundance of talent amongst the fit and available players in this squad.

Hibs meanwhile after all the bluster about equal ticket allocation have had to rather sheepishly return tickets having failed miserably to achieve their aim of selling out their increased allocation. Hopefully these tickets can now be sold to Celtic supporters desperate to be at the final rather than have empty seats at what is a show-piece event for the Scottish game.

Roll on Sunday…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
