‘Smiles Better,’ Broony calls for two big wins to cheer up Celtic support

SCOTT BROWN expected yesterday’s encounter with Hamilton tone anything but easy and that’s exactly how it turned out. The Champions had Dedryck Boyata, back in the side for the first time this season, to thank for the only goal of the game, that keeps Celtic on target for three home wins in a week.

If that can be achieved them the early season ‘blues’ will be removed from Celtic Park and maybe for the first time this season there will be a dark cloud over in Govan.

For all the stick Celtic have taken they have 6 points after 3 games compared to the 5 won by the ‘unbeaten’ World Beaters. And the Celtic defence – even without Boyata – has conceded twice. The Best Defence in World Football has conceded 4 times in their three league matches.

Not the king of thing that they dwell on on Super Scoreboard.

“We knew it was going to be hard,” The Celtic skipper admitted after yesterday’s 1-0 win against. well organised Hamilton side.

“We knew they were going to defend for their lives. Hamilton do that all the time against us here. They were well-organised. They have obviously been watching how we play. They’ve let us have the ball at the back, but they didn’t cause us too many problems. They had a shot inside the first couple of minutes, but after that I think we controlled the game from start to finish.

“They set up 5-4-1 and tried to stop us. They pressed quite high up the park and played quite direct down the channels and used Miller’s pace. To be fair, we controlled the game. We have pace at the back and pace up the top so we could have scored a couple more goals if the luck was with us.

“For us, we’re just looking forward to Thursday now. We’ll make sure we push on and get into the Europa League, and then we have a big game on Sunday. We have two big games and we need to big victories to put a big smile on everyone’s face.”

On yesterday’s match winner getting his first outing since the Scottish Cup Final win over Motherwell the skipper seemed pleased to have him back on the park. Brown, you will recall, met with Boyata along with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers to discuss ‘Redemption’.

“We’re all together, that’s the main thing for us,” Broony said.

“It’s been a hard week for Dedryck but he’s been fantastic at the end of it. He’s scored a goal and got us the three points that we deserved. It shows his character. It’s in the past and it’ll stay in the past now.”
