‘So Griff may start against Thistle and I think he’d like to stay here,’ Lenny ends Griffiths speculation

NEIL LENNON yesterday backed Leigh Griffiths to make his mark on Celtic’s campaign in the second half of the season that gets underway later this afternoon in the 5.30pm kick-off against Partick Thistle at Firhill in the Scottish Cup.

Griffiths found himself at the centre of a social media frenzy during the week and ended up deleting his Twitter account temporarily. He’s put it back up now, although that may not have been the best move to be honest, especially after the manner in which some supporters reacted to his recent post.

Inevitably Neil Lennon was going to be asked about the striker, who he has already confirmed is part of his plans and will not be going out on loan this season, in his Media Conference yesterday (watch below).

“Leigh is looking good. We want him to play. He had a good week in Dubai and has been training well.

“Everybody is speculating about Griff at the moment, but we aren’t in any real rush to look at that.

“So Griff may start against Thistle and I think he’d like to stay here. He’s never made any intimation he would want to leave.

Griffiths celebrates a goal at Firhill

“We will see how things go over the next few weeks. I can’t comment on speculation surrounding any player, and there has been a lot in the last few months about Griff.

“But he is hungry and he wants to play — he has made that pretty clear to me.”

Great to hear that. Here is Lenny’s first pre-match media conference of the new decade, where the Celtic manager talks about Leigh Griffiths, the cup-tie against Partick Thistle, the two new signings and much more…
