There’s increasing talk of Reo Hatate being a surprise starter on Saturday. For me it’s a big thumbs down…
There has been a few rumblings this week concerning long term absentees Reo Hatate and Liel Abada, and their chances of being available for first team selection for Saturday’s Glasgow Derby. Some reckon one or both could play some part against the Ibrox side, with most of the speculation surrounding the chances of Reo Hatate playing a part this weekend.
But for me it’s a big thumbs down. Reo is a player I greatly admire. He’s a class act and we’ve badly missed his ability in the middle of the park these last few months, but as for being pitched straight into Saturday’s game, that wouldn’t be the wisest of decisions.
He will be badly lacking match fitness, which is only natural as he’s hasn’t seen any first team action since October. Saturday’s game will be played at a frantic pace and we need players who are one hundred percent fit. They need to be sharp and be able to keep up with the pace and withstand the physical challenges they will undoubtedly face.
Reo Hatate for all the talent he will bring, unfortunately wont have the stamina to keep up with such a ferocious pace having been sidelined for so long. The middle of the park is an area where the game could be won or lost on Saturday, and we can’t afford any passengers on the day.
A place on the bench would be the most sensible option in my opinion. Reo would be a great option to bring on if needed. Playing him from the start could prove to be a huge mistake, but I’m sure Brendan knows what he’s doing. We’ve just got to trust his judgement on the day.
