Another thumping semi-final win at Hampden – ‘Piling on the agony putting on the style’…

Celtic yesterday put one hand on the Scottish Cup, and took a step closer to a domestic clean sweep as they blew away a sorry St Johnstone side in very one sided Scottish cup semi-final.

Similar to the Premier Sports League Cup semi final at the national stadium back in November against Aberdeen, we endured something of a frustrating first half an hour before making the breakthrough. After Callum McGregor opened the floodgates Celtic had the game finished as a contest by the interval as the players trooped off to a chorus of the famous ‘piling on the agony putting on the style’ tune blaring out from the massive Celtic support inside the National stadium.

Callum McGregor fired us into the lead in the 34th minute before a Daizen Maeda brace and an Adam Idah goal from close range sealed our return to Hampden on 24 May. It was a blistering first half with the players at the top of their game, especially the superb Reo Hatate who laid on three assists in a superb individual showing.
The second half as you’d expect was similar to last week’s one sided league win over Kilmarnock, merely resembling a training session with substitute Jota inflicting more damage on the deflated Perth side by grabbing a fifth goal, fittingly enough on the 67th minute.

Celtic’s treble dream is very much alive, and only Aberdeen now stand in our way as we strive to accomplish yet another domestic clean sweep. Before that we have five league games to win and all sorts of objectives to meet, like getting Daizen up to 40 goals and winning Sky Sports ‘Summer Bragging’ rights cup in a fortnight’s time.
Then we can go to Hampden and make history. Well done Celtic and also the Celtic support who were magnificent on at Hampden in the Sun.
This is what it’s all about…
