The Scottish FA today confirmed the match-official line-up for Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon…
Celtic are within touching distance of the title, requiring a single point to make it official and that could come the weekend after the Scottish Cup action as Celtic look to reach the final for the third consecutive season with the ultimate target being to complete a record breaking ninth treble for the club.
Rookie referee Calum Scott will have the whistle for the St Johnstone v Celtic semi-final on Easter Sunday and he will be assisted by Dougie Potter and Graeme Stewart.
Andrew Dallas will be the man responsible for the VAR operation with Alan Mulvanny assisting.
Calum Scott was the referee for Celtic’s side thumping 5-2 victory over Falkirk in the Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final at Celtic Park last September.
Most recently, he was the man in the middle for Celtic’s comprehensive 5-0 win versus Ross County in late November at Celtic Park. The Hoops scored five first-half goals making it a controversy free afternoon for the whistler.
Calum Scott recently took charge of the SPFL Trust Trophy Final at the Falkirk stadium as Livingston hammered Queen’s Park to collect the silverware. He also had the whistle at a more successful afternoon for the Spiders, the day they knocked theRangers out of the Scottish Cup.
This though will be Calum Scott’s first match at the National Stadium, let’s hope it goes smoothly for him and that the better team wins.
St Johnstone can play this one pressure free, aware from staring relegation in the face in the post-match split fixtures when they essentially have to win their five games. How that prospect affects them at Hampden remains to be seem but Celtic shouldn’t have to worry too much about that, especially as Brendan Rodgers will be demanding that their is no repeat of that sloppy performance at McDiarmid Park.
The surface at Hampden hopefully will be in good shape after the first semi-final the day before between Hearts and Aberdeen, with the Saints and on of those two all that’s standing between Celtic and yet another treble triumph.
