Celtic face St Mirren this evening as domestic football returns. It has been a great week for Scottish football fans but there was a bump back down to reality yesterday as a stormy AGM at Celtic Park was cut short by the embattled Celtic Board, who blamed elements of the support.
Celtic are yet to replace Brendan Rodgers with legendary Martin O’Neill still in charge. It had been expected that the club would have appointed Columbus Crew manager Wilfried Nancy to the post. Alas, MON takes the team and he spoke to the media yesterday.
Team News
Celtic have a number of absentees going into the game, which was already going to be a difficult task. James Forrest is out as is Kelechi Iheanacho. However, the club have long term injuries in the form of Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcelo Saracchi and Jota.
Kasper Schmeichel will start in nets.
Auston Trusty and Liam Scales will start in the centre of defence with Scotland goal hero Kieran Tierney starting at left back and his international colleague Tony Ralston at right back.
Callum McGregor will start in the middle with Arne Engels and Benji Nygren likely continuing. Reo Hatate is an option too should the manager want to bring the Japanese midfielder into the side.
Daizen Maeda, Johnny Kenny and Seb Tounetki are the likely front three. Although there is a bit of a drop off in the wide areas where the bench is concerned.
Referee Details
The SFA have confirmed the refereeing appointments for the match with experienced referee Kevin Clancy handed the whistle.
The 41-year-old will be assisted by David Roome and Ross Nelson.
Meanwhile, at Clydesdale House, Matthew MacDermid is on VAR with Sean Carr assisting.
Kick Off Time
The game kicks off at 8pm (Celtic Park Time).
Where to Watch
The game will be shown on Premier Sports with the build up beginning at 7:30pm. It will be interesting to hear the fallout from the AGM and how pundits view the events from yesterday.
