Stephen McGowan says Tierney willing to take Celtic paycut

Reliable journalist Stephen McGowan has said that Kieran Tierney is willing to take a pay cut to sign for Celtic. The Scotland Internationalist will leave Arsenal at the end of the season under freedom of contract and has been heavily linked with a return to Celtic.

As reported by Mail Sport, McGowan has updated fans to say that Celtic are keen on making a move for Tierney with the player open to the wage cut that a move would involve.

Tierney is on £120k per week but will require to take a substantial wage cut if he were to return to Celtic. The likelihood is that he would be one of the club’s highest earners if he were to return but it would still be a substantial cut for the 47-capped fullback.

Tierney made 170 appearances for Celtic between 2015 and 2019. During his time at the club, he scored 8 goals and provided 37 assists across all competitions. The player would represent a huge signing for Celtic given his quality and connection to the club. Reports have suggested that Celtic are exploring a pre contract and a loan back to the club in January, this would excite supporters. The news might also hasten the situation with Greg Taylor, who is out of contract this summer too.

  1. Wouldn’t say money is a massive motivation factor for Tierney any longer, especially as he would be a very wealthy player already?
For Tierney, who was supposedly having a very successful career ahead of himself, when he left ourselves, hasn’t really turned out to be so for himself?
So getting more success within his career, could well be a bigger motivation factor for Tierney now?
Wouldn’t be to many, if any, could provide Tierney that potential success for himself, moreso than ourselves imo?
The injury record for Tierney would be a major concern for any club interested in him, including ourselves also?
But Tierney could well be used in a rotation role with ourselves moreso, and possibly wanted for the bigger games we play in?
Could see why Rodgers would also like to keep hold of Taylor also, to put such a potential plan into operation and helping with our homegrown quota requirements also.
Still believe Rodgers would like to add Tierney to our squad this season, so couldn’t rule out a loan deal for him in January, and see what happens from there?
Think there could well be some time to go before Tierney, could be considered as a realistic permanent signing target imo?
At present undecided as to whether it would be a good move for Tierney or not, and would feel taking the potential loan option would be the safest bet all round, even if it means paying arsenal a loan fee for the remainder of this season imo?
