Stephen Welsh doubt for Saturday’s League Cup Semi-Final

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh is a doubt for Celtic’s Scottish League Cup Semi-Final against St Johnstone. Scotland’s U21 captain limped off the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Belgium at Tannadice.

Carl Starfelt and Christopher Jullien are both touch and go for the game against St Johnstone with Ange Postecoglou now having questions beside Welsh’s name. The boss may need to call upon either Liam Scales or Nir Bitton to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back. Starfelt picked up a hamstring strain in the draw with Livingston whilst Jullien has been out since last December with a knee injury.

St Johnstone winger Glenn Middleton was also forced from the field, meaning he will likely be a doubt for the game on Saturday evening too.

That didn’t stop the defender coming back onto the pitch to present a lucky fan with his top, despite going off injured.

The game will be Postecoglou’s first taste of the National Stadium with Celtic as the Hoops look to put themselves into the December showpiece Final.
