Livingston have returned to the top flight in stunning circumstances after coming from 2-0 down against Ross County to win the Premiership Play-Off. The game headed to Dingwall finely poised after Ronan Hale’s injury time equaliser from the spot at The Set Fare Arena last week. However, it was Don Cowie’s side that looked to be securing their Premiership status via the Playoffs for the third successive campaign.
After two goals from Josh Nisbet and Hale, it appeared that The Staggies were on track for the win. The scoreline didn’t faze David Martindale’s side, who scored just before half time through Lewis Smith before following it up after the break with goals from Danny Wilson and Robbie Muirhead. In injury time, as Ross County piled pressure onto the visitors, Livi secured the victory and their promotion with a goal from Teti Yengi.
The result means that Celtic will have a sizeable away day next season, with Livi permitting three stands to go to the Scottish Champions. In what is a shrewd business decision, Livi equate empty seats with lost revenue and open the door to Celtic fans. The trips to Livi are always difficult but as ex-Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart says, the displays from the Celtic fans at Livi are always special.
Congratulations to Martindale and Livi, who return to the top flight after one season in the second flight. Livi are a difficult team to face and have shown themselves to be one of the top teams in the Championship this season. The goal from Muirhead to give Livi the lead was a stunner.
TAKE A BOW ROBBIE MUIRHEAD 😳 👏
