Swansea confirm £7m signing of Adam Idah but Celtic yet to sign replacement

Swansea City have confirmed the signing of Adam Idah from Celtic. The Irish Internationalist has sealed a return to the Championship just a year after his permanent switch to Glasgow’s East End.

The ambitious Championship side mounted a surprise move for Idah, who scored 29 goals for Celtic, and now have secured his signing on a long term deal. Surprisingly, Swansea have confirmed the deal despite Celtic being in a position whereby no replacement has been signed.

Idah was down in Wales on Thursday with a deal expected to be completed shortly thereafter. However, he was recalled to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers refused to sanction a move with no replacement in the building. Despite this decision, Idah didn’t feature on Sunday in the dull draw with Rangers.

Kasper Dolberg was expected to be the replacement but now Ajax have emerged as serious contenders for the Dane’s signature, having offered a loan with obligation to buy deal. It would be a serious blow to the morale around the club if Celtic missed out on the 55-cap striker. Now the club are said to be looking at Datro Fofana of Chelsea and Sekou Mara of Strasbourg.

On one view it may be that Celtic are confident in getting a deal done that they’ve allowed Idah to depart. Or, it may be that the window is close to shutting in England and they’ve taken the view that some cash is better than none.

  1. I know which scenario sounds more plausible! I hope I am wrong but it feels like an unproven prospect on loan wth the option to buy on the way. The biscuit tin mentality has well and truly setin

  2. The summer 2025 window was open from 16 June to 1 September. So here we are after 77 odd days sitting on a massive transfer surplus and making low ball offers for players. No doubt we will hear plenty about Ajax hijacking our bid for Dolberg but the club was the architects of its own downfall in the deal. This is a continuous cycle and no doubt we will be here again next year having the same discussions.

  3. It’s not Celtic there refusing to sign for its spl we have teams that park the bus and tv pundits praising there coaches for waisting time veining injury just stop the flow of football no advantage played by poor refs clubs sacrifice full houses by refusing away support and there own supporters cant take up slack half empty grounds not nice even at Celtic park and ibrox stadium fans leaving 20 mins or more if there team are 2or more up cause opposition are still parking the bus how can an ex player praise any team that never comes out of there half boring three plastic pitches thats the baggage that Celtic board have to sell to players

  4. If a player goes down with head knock should stay of pitch for 5 mins to check concussion players are doing it at corners to stop teams breaking up field st mirren two grogic and forget and there centre half nearly every break away from corners get stopped with head knock cold sponge or not even medics coming on yes let them get 5 minute check up that will stop it

  5. I wholeheartedly agree with a lot of what what you say regarding the SPL Jack. But if that’s the reason why players don’t want to sign for us why do we leave it until to the end of the window to go rummaging down the back of the couch for spare change to sign quality players? It reeks of desparation and bad project management. There are players out there who would improve the team and would sign for us.

  6. We’ve known since January we needed to sign a quality CF.

We could have signed Miovski for buttons months ago. We never went after Strelec.

And here we are. Scrabbling around at the 12th hour. Selling Idah better mean there’s a tremendous last minute surprise waiting tomorrow morning. One of real quality.

Lawwell and co need to understand that this makes them personally look amateur and foolish on the international stage, despite how clever they think it makes the balance sheet appear. Total amateurs.
