Swap Shop – Rodgers joins Celtic as Johnstone heads to Hearts

Celtic FC Women have confirmed the signing of Lisa Rodgers, a talented 17-year-old goalkeeper. Rachael Johnstone will depart the club as part of the deal, joining Hearts permanently.

Lisa joins the Hoops from Hearts and becomes Elena Sadiku’s first signing as Celtic manager.

Rodgers made her debut for the Edinburgh side at the age of 15 after coming through the Hearts academy. She was sent out on loan to Boroughmuir Thistle and came against the Hoops in the Scottish Cup. She also made an appearance at Celtic Park in the final game of last season.

In addition to her appearances at club level, she has also represented Scotland on 16 occasions.

A fantastic, promising first signing for Elena. As I’ve said many times before, we all know that Elena’s brand is building up the youth, so for us to sign such a promising young goalkeeper makes the future look very bright.

Elena takes charge of her first game as Celtic manager tomorrow (Friday), for a Sky Sports League cup semi-final against theRangers over at Airdrie. The game kicks off at 19:35 and tickets are available to buy HERE. Celtic FC Women Season tickets are also valid for this game.

Although Kelsey Daugherty is all but guaranteed to start this game, could we see our new signing feature on the bench?

Celtic FC Women this evening thanked Rachael Johnstone for her outstanding contribution to the Celtic success over the past few seasons and for her five years of service to the Celtic cause. Best of luck from us too, Rachael!
