SWPL1: theRangers v Celtic – “Our morale is really good with everyone all buzzing,” Lisa Robertson

Celtic playmaker Lisa Robertson has enjoyed many successful encounters with theRangers but tomorrow will be her first taste of facing them in a Glasgow Derby wearing the Hoops. And the former Durham, Hibs and Glasgow City star can’t wait for the game to come around as Celtic look to leapfrog theRangers in the SWPL1 table.

The midfielder has won all major domestic honours in her time in the game and is looking to add to her medal haul in this her first season at Celtic. The experienced professional reckons that Celtic will have what it takes to get the three points tomorrow at theRangers Training centre.

“I’m really looking forward to it – I expect it to be a very competitive game,” Robertson told the official Celtic website.”Both teams have strengthened and are still looking to improve and do better than they have in previous years. There is a great rivalry there between the two and when you join Celtic you become part of that, so that adds extra excitement.

“It’s good to tick another derby off the list. I’ve been involved in derbies before but obviously none with Celtic yet so this one is exciting too. Derbies are always very competitive so it’s great to get involved in a Glasgow one.

“I feel like the league really has improved. There’s always a challenge with every team you play; in previous years there’s been bigger scorelines and not every game is as competitive, but now every week you know every game will be difficult. It’s great for Scottish football to go from strength to strength every year.”

After losing the season opener away to her old club, the current Champions Glasgow City, Robertson has been encouraged by two very good wins over Hearts and Spartans with eleven goals scored and none conceded. That has got Celtic right back in the mix at the top of the table and a win tomorrow would see Celtic leapfrog theRangers who have won their opening three matches in the new campaign.

“It’s good to get a run of games and coming off the back of six points gives everyone a big boost and confidence going into theRangers game.

“We know that if we take everything from the previous games and build on what we’ve worked on in training we can set ourselves up well for the weekend. The squad is high in confidence right now – with each game we are improving and working on the things that need to be worked on, and our morale is really good with everyone all buzzing for the weekend.”

COYGIG. The game is available on a pay-per view basis from theRangers website, and costs £3.49.
