Talented Celtic youngster could leave this Summer with no new contract agreed

It might be commonly overlooked when it comes to the Rangers giving Celtic a serious run for their money in the title race, but it could actually be a negative thing for youngsters at the club.

Obviously it’s great to see some more competitiveness in a lot of games because the results matter so much more, but that also makes it difficult to blood the young players and let them make their mistakes.

We haven’t seen too many youngsters make the grade recently, obviously Kieran Tierney is the true stand out, while guys like Liam and Euan Henderson, Tony Ralston and Mikey Johnston will get the odd runs of games but might struggle to establish themselves.

That could come into the thinking here, after Football Insider reported that Celtic youngster Ryan Mullen has rejected a new contract and could be set to leave in the Summer when his current deal runs out.

They go on to say that Celtic still hope to tie him down to a new deal, but there are now several English clubs who are interested after this latest development.

He’s a Scotland U19 international and certainly looks promising, but it’s hard to see him getting any chances in the Celtic first team at this point. It happened years ago with David Marshall when he broke through, but it seems like Mullen would have to go out on loan to continue his development first.
