Tam McManus backs larger standing section at Celtic Park

As reported by The Celtic Star earlier today, some Celtic supporters groups have been pleading the case to make the standing section bigger, to accommodate those who wish to be on their feet at the games. This comes after a recent debate about whether or not fans should stand at the games as it sometimes obstructs those wish to remain seated or that can’t stand for various reasons.

In recent times, the club has introduced a safe-standing section into the ground at Parkhead and it has certainly been to the benefit of the atmosphere at the games for sure. However, with a limited number in one corner of the ground, many have put the case forward that Celtic should make a new full Celtic End so that supporters can have the option to stand if they do wish at the football on a weekly basis.

The proposal would be for the lower end of the Jock Stein stand to be used as the guinea pig for perhaps moving one day into a full stand that is catered for those standing at the matches in Celtic Park. There is undeniably a demand for the expansion of such a project, but as has already been mentioned, would those in the Jock Stein stand wish to relocate?

Well, Tam McManus has been speaking to PLZ Soccer about the proposal put forward and advocated for Celtic to implement these plans at their home stadium. He commented: “Granting bigger standing section would increase Celtic Park atmosphere ten fold.” However, he also added that if such a project came to fruition, those that advocate for such a move would have to esnure that everyone behaves in a way that is acceptable to the standards of the club.

Have a listen…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
