Taylor might not be a favourite, but we’d be losing a quality player

Greg Taylor might not be a favourite, but we will be losing a decent player if he does indeed leave Celtic…

As of today Greg Taylor is free to speak to any interested clubs who wish to sign him as a free agent this coming summer, with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb reportedly keen on his signature.

Contract situation is quite bizarre

I find the entire situation quite bizarre to be honest. There’s been reports that he’s been offered a new deal, and there’s been reports that he’s turned it down, but quite frankly no-one outside the negotiations has a clue what’s going on regarding his situation.

Greg isn’t exactly a fans favourite, and receives his fair share of stick which is unwarranted in my opinion, but he still remains a firm favourite of Brendan Rodgers who starts him more often than not, and the fact that he hasn’t been tied down on a new deal is a mystery.

Maybe he wasn’t offered the terms he wanted, maybe he wasn’t offered anything at all, or maybe he just wants to start afresh somewhere else. Maybe he wants assurances that he’ll be the first pick left back and maybe Celtic can’t offer that because of other plans that Brendan recently discussed with Dermot Desmond in Dublin.

Taylor has contributed massively to Celtic’s success

We don’t really know, but what we do know is that we will be losing a decent hard working player if he does indeed leave. He may have his critics, but you can’t deny that Greg has contributed massively to our success these past few years. Something that won’t be truly appreciated until he has gone.

  1. Taylor is a very decent squad player, and certainly played his part in our ongoing success, within our club?
Totally understand why Rodgers wants to keep hold of Taylor, especially as Rodgers is still looking at having 2 strong players in each position, that he can trust and depend upon?
There still will be a quality factor between 1st and 2nd choice in nearly all positions, but that has been massively reduced overall within our squad last year, even if some work remains in place at present still?
This 8 homegrown quota requirements for ourselves, will be a challenging hurdle to overcome, and even more so with Calmac and forrest at the back end of there careers now?
So of course Taylor ticks all the boxes for Rodgers management.
Still think the draw of the MLS might be favourite for Taylor, but don’t expect anything to happen, or any news, before we conclude our last 2 CL matches?
Again would show what a brilliant professional Taylor remains, even if his mind is made up and his future is elsewhere imo?

  2. This is ludicrous he is has had a great input in Celtic success if Rodgers wants him to sign good enough for me no matter what Club you support there’s always supporters that love to moan from first whistle to last yes clubs target left side cause right side you have Johnson and carter vickers Taylor height is a problem and his passing sideways or back especially in Europe when team’s press it a pass backwards allows teams to squeeze the game and our midfield are defending instead off attacking when teams press you need to pass forward allow your midfield to go on the front foot to get forwards running intospacee instead of going backwards with the ball you need to have the ball be moving forward for your team operate sorry to say Taylor and scales passing forward in Europe is poor

  3. KT can’t play the pass Taylor did for Reo’s winner at Aberdeen.
Taylor is a good footballer. He misplaces a few passes, but the whole team do because of the way we play. He also gets caught out of position, but that’s down to the way Rodgers lines up. Taylor plays inverted, whilst AJ doesn’t. It’s down to the left winger or left centre back to assist or cover him.
He gets a lot of unfair criticism that doesn’t get given to other players who make the same mistake.
And unlike KT, Taylor is rarely injured. KT is better defensively, but Taylor is a better footballer and better offensively.

  4. If he wants to go then fine but we also need to keep the Scottish coefficient in mind.
