Team’s Up – Maeda through the middle, Schlupp at left back

Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic team for this evening’s UEFA Champions League game against Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga leaders are unbeaten in 20 matches at the Allianz Arena but Celtic will be targeting a shock in Bavaria.

The Celtic manager has named his team with two changes from the side that was narrowly beaten last week with Jota and Jefferey Schlupp coming into the team.

In goals, Kasper Schmeichel starts. The Dane revealed he was close to joining Bayern in 2022 but he’ll be hoping to play his part in dumping them out of Europe tonight.

In defence, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty start in the central pairing with Jefferey Schlupp and Alistair Johnston in the fullback berths. The Crystal Palace loanee could prove to be a shrewd move by the manager as Schlupp will know Michael Olise well given their time spent together with the Selhurst Park club.

In midfield, Callum McGregor starts with Arne Engels and Reo Hatate.

In attack, Daizen Maeda starts through the middle with Jota on the left and Nicolas Kühn on the right.

Subs: Sinisalo, Bain, Scales, Taylor, Idah, Yang, McCowan, Nawrocki, Kenny, Murray, Ralston, Bonnar.

  1. Watching the game today. Four quality opportunities for goal missed. I understand we can’t get them all but at least one needs to be potted against an opponent like this. And I have to say; Hatate with all his attributes can’t deliver a proper ball without giving up possession.
