TEENAGE KICKS is back for the new season with a look back at my Celtic diary for the Double Treble season, here is the first installment…

The story of this historic season begins on a bright and sunny Wednesday afternoon at the foot of the Campsie Fells in Lennoxtown. Earlier on that morning, news had broken that Celtic had signed French Under twenty-one internationalist, Olivier Ntcham. This was undoubtedly an ambitious signing for the club and I am very glad to say that I was among some of the first supporters to welcome Olivier to Celtic.

Due to some event going on in Belfast a couple of days before, Celtic’s opening competitive game of the campaign was played on Friday night at Windsor Park. The local pub which I watch matches in was heaving to watch the bhoys cruise past Linfield. The game was completely overshadowed with missiles being directed at Celtic players during the match which caused UEFA to take disciplinary action on Linfield.

It was good to be back at Celtic Park for a competitive game of football. A further pleasing sight was to see the ground absolutely packed to watch Celtic tear Linfield apart by four goals. The season was just beginning!

A week on, the champions of Norway, Rosenborg headed to Celtic Park. The game was very tight with no team being able to break the deadlock. Coming home on the bus after the game, we were all just glad that we didn’t concede an away goal. However, we were all extremely sceptical of what lay waiting in Trondheim the following week.
