‘That was close’, Daizen Maeda reacts to VAR disallowed

Celtic booked their place in the League Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock at Hampden this evening. The Scottish Champions recorded the same score line last weekend but it was a hard fought win against Derek McInnes’ side.

Ange Postecoglou’s side actually had the ball in the net on four occasions only for VAR to intervene twice. One such occasion was when Maeda thought he’d scored an excellent goal only for Kyogo, who assisted, to be deemed offside.

The Japanese Internationalist took to social media to comment on the decision to rule out the goal.

Maeda opened the scoring after benefitting from a Kyle Lafferty failed clearance. Giorgos Giakoumakis made it 2-0 in the dying stages, a goal which could be his last for the club, to fire Celtic into the final.

Celtic will face either Rangers or Aberdeen, who play tomorrow, in the League Cup Final on the 26th February. It will be a difficult task to play on the Hampden pitch, which looked to be cut up massively in the game tonight.
