“That’s just the message,” Callum McGregor – Ange Postecoglou is always challenging us

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has been speaking to Celtic TV today about having to wear a mask during games after sustaining a serious facial injury in Celtic’s Scottish Cup match against Barry Ferguson’s boot boys back on 22 January.

That injury against Alloa was predicted to keep the midfielder out for at least a few weeks but amazingly ‘Calmac of the Opera’, as christening by this parishes very own Sandman, stunningly returned against theRangers a week and a half later to lead his side during a fantastic performance at Paradise.

He has also been discussing the positivity currently sweeping through the club and maintains the team will continue to strive for further improvement during this busy stage of the season.

Speaking at Lennoxtown, McGregor said:

“It’s getting better every game. It’s not too restrictive in that sense in terms of vision and everything else, so it’s more sort of getting comfortable and getting used to it. I’ve had a good couple of weeks, good results, good performances, so when you’re in a good moment, you just want to keep going. You just want the games to keep coming around.

“The atmosphere is good around the place, we’re happy to keep working and keep trying to get better, and obviously looking forward to the game tomorrow.”

McGregor also pays tribute to his manager Ange Postecoglou, stating that the Australian’s footballing philosophy is something that is maintained constantly, whether that is during matches or within each training session at Lennoxtown. The captain said:

“We want to get better and develop every time we go on to the pitch, whether that be in training or a matchday situation – it’s exactly the same. The manager’s been over the review of the games, what we’ve done well and what we can do better, and he’s always challenging us to be better and to play even more football.

“So, again, that’s just the message for us. We just keep going one game at a time, one day at a time and always trying to improve.”

It’s clear from Callum McGregor’s comments that Ange Postecoglou has high expectations in regards to his players continual improvement and that he demands they give one hundred percent at all times, following the old mantra that players should train as hard as they play.

It’s exciting to think that this revolution currently in progress under the Australian is only beginning. If Celtic continue to back their manager it will be extremely interesting to see just how far he can take us in the future.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!
