“That’s the biggest change from Wednesday,” Osaze Urhoghide

Recent rumours suggest Osaze Urhoghide, Celtic’s summer signing from Sheffield Wednesday, may well be looking at a loan deal to build up match fitness, after a solitary appearance Real Betis for Celtic this season.

Osaze has been talking via his YouTube channel about the step up from the Yorkshire club to the demands made at Celtic. He’s certainly noticed a difference.

“At a club like Celtic, second really isn’t good enough. It’s first or nothing, even in training. That’s one thing I’ve found different here, the demand to win. There’s expectation of success and that’s in training too.

“When we’re playing games, you have to be 100 per cent every day. I used to think I was dedicated before, but the levels of dedication now have to be higher. You need to perform in every game as the fans are on you. It doesn’t matter how you feel,” he added.

“The fans demand success and there’s always expectation. That’s the biggest change from Wednesday. At Celtic, a club with so much history of winning stuff, there is just that demand to win. I knew it before I signed, but now I’m here, you can see the pressure to win and perform.”

A loan deal may well build up Urhoghide’s fitness. Add that to his clear understanding of what’s required to make the grade at Celtic and it it may be opportunity can still knock for Osaze Urhoghide under Ange Postecoglou. He certainly seems to be aware of just what is required. And if there is indeed a trend emerging don’t be surprised if Urhoghide – who was very impressive in that Europa League match against Real Betis last month – is sent out on loan to a cinch Premiership side until the summer.

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
