“The best player at Celtic? I’ll give it to either Jota or Callum McGregor,” Liam Shaw

Liaw Shaw praised Callum McGregor for his tremendous work ethic during training with the Celtic squad. The midfielder has only made two competitive appearances for the Bhoys, since signing with the club in the Summer of 2021.

Due to his wish to rack up more game-time and experience, Shaw is currently on loan to Morecambe, which plays in the English League One division. However, the 21-year-old trained with the Celtic squad consistently last season and was eager to open up about his experiences training with the Hoops.

Speaking on The Players Piece Podcast, Shaw revealed who he thinks the best player is in the Celtic squad:

“The best player at Celtic? I’ll give it to either Jota or Callum McGregor. In training and stuff, he is ridiculous. He sets the tempo… I don’t think I have ever actually seen him give the ball away in training, he’s just really good. Jota has the flair and stuff, he is also good. When I saw him in training some of the things he would do were unbelievable.”

Liam Shaw signs for Celtic

Shaw has been gathering experience and game-time during his time with Morecambe, racking up 17 appearances this term. However, he admits that while he intends to play his hand at Morecambe, he fully intends to go back to Celtic and hopefully secure a space in the squad. Although, with Ange Postecoglou constantly improving the squad and bringing a few more players into the fold, space may be limited and Shaw recognises this and accepts that he may not fit into Ange’s plans…

“I want to keep Morecambe up and then go back to Celtic, and whatever will be will be. If I’m not part of the plans obviously I will go out on loan again.”

“I didn’t really play much for six months when I was at Wednesday, then for another six months with Celtic. That was a year where I didn’t play, and that was one of the toughest parts of my career because I just wanted to play.”

“That first six months at Celtic, I gave everything, to be fair. I felt like I trained well but obviously, I wasn’t doing enough to get in the team. I went on loan to Motherwell and even then I was in and out of the Motherwell team.”
