Celtic Football Club boasts a magnificent musical heritage. From inception to the present day, the combined Scottish and Irish constituents of the support have always drawn on their cultural roots to ensure that many Folk and Celtic songs are heard in Paradise.
These songs proudly celebrate our heritage and evolve through the generations. They are unique in the sporting world, unmatched for the history, pride, and social relevance that sustains them. As times change and the repertoire gains new additions, the musical tradition is always maintained.
Now, the Celtic faithful have another fantastic tune to add to their collection – The Best The World Has Seen – by Glas & Bàn (George W Stevenson)
George Stevenson was born in Lennoxtown, adjacent to what is now the site of Celtic’s training ground. He moved from Scotland to the seaside town of Weymouth in 1985, but continues to visit Parkhead as often as possible. Over the years, he became a fine musician and began gigging with various bands, as a lead vocalist and guitarist, across Europe.
Enjoying life as a solo performer today, George entertains fans under the artist name of Glas & Bàn, meaning green and white (in Gaelic), due to his lifelong support of Celtic.
Speaking about this latest track, George said: “The song was recorded in Weymouth, Dorset as my homage to the Hoops. When I played it to the local Celtic Supporters here (we have a lot of fans in Dorset) they encouraged me to release it. The dream is for it to be sung at Celtic Park!
“The Best The World Has Seen will feature on a future album, but I decided to release it as a taster and it is available now to download on all major streaming services including Spotify, Amazon and iTunes.”
The single’s artwork, which bears a Celtic crest in the background, was created by George’s nephew Kevin Stevenson.
