Paradise Erupts – Those two late goals from Big Pierre and Andy Thom…
Ahead of Monday night’s Scottish Cup Quarter Final between Dundee United and Celtic at Tannadice, a look back to an encounter at Celtic Park at the same stage of the Scottish Cup on this day in 1996.
It looked like being a frustrating afternoon with Dundee United holding on to a 1-0 lead as we entered the closing stages and quite a few supporters having already headed to to the exits to avoid the traffic that jams that were by this stage a bigger problem around Celtic Park after the new stadium was opened.

But is the Celtic tradition a late equaliser from Pierre van Hooijdonk looked like earning Celtic a replay up at Tannadice before Andreas Them went through in stoppage time to win the match for Celtic and Paradise went absolutely crazy. What a buzz we got that afternoon, probably one of the best afternoons in the new stadium that gave us a real taste for what was to come in this wonderful new arena Wee Fergus build.

The last game my late father in law ever attended.
He said after it , Celtic would be the death of him after that ending .
A memorable game for many reasons , one being the pause before the winner then the rattling of the seats as everyone stood up.

Other Celtic related activity on this day…
On 10 March 1906 Celtic clinch their sixth League Championship and their second in succession as they beat Queen’s Park 6-0 at Hampden. 15,000 are there to see a tremendous Celtic performance with four goals from Jimmy Quinn and one each from Alec Bennett and Davie Hamilton.
On 10 March 1934 This has not been a great season for Celtic, but occasionally there is an indication that things may be on the up. Today the O’Donnell brothers grab the goals as Celtic beat Motherwell 3-0 at Parkhead, Hugh scoring two and Frank one.
On 10 March 1965 It is Jock Stein’s first game in charge of Celtic as the team travel to Broomfield to beat Airdrie 6-0. It is the Bertie Auld show, for he scores five goals (two of them penalties) and John Hughes notches the other.
On 10 March 2002 In a tough game at Ibrox, Stilian Petrov’s goal is enough to earn Celtic the draw which suits them, for Celtic are well ahead in the League race.

🗓️ It was #OnThisDay 63 years ago on March 10, 1959, that the man who scored the most important goal in #CelticFC’s history made his debut for the Hoops.🍀⤵️
