The Place You Call Home: Liam McGrandles’ New Album Featuring Original Celtic Songs

Liam McGrandles is one of the finest musicians in Scotland, particularly within the realm of Irish folk music. Many Celtic fans will be familiar with him from visits to the Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park, where Liam regularly performed on match days prior to the intervention of Covid-19. Others will know him from Facebook Live performances and fundraisers during lockdown, or perhaps the wider pub music scene in Glasgow, Falkirk and beyond.

By no means limited to the genre of Irish folk, Liam McGrandles excels at performing a varied set. Indeed, during a fundraising gig in his front garden, he sang everything from Boolavogue by The Dubliners to Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

And when Liam’s not singing or playing the guitar, he writes his own tunes too!

The ability to write and perform songs of historical importance about Ireland, Celtic Football Club and working class life has now manifest itself in a fantastic new album named The Place You Call Home.

The CD boasts 16 tracks, including seven originals! Of those originals, we are given two fantastic additions to the Celtic songbook – Walfrid & The Big Cup:

Speaking to Liam about his new release, he explained: “It is a collection of 16 songs… seven originals and nine folk covers. There are two brand new Celtic songs on there, ‘The Big Cup’ telling the story of Lisbon ’67 and ‘Walfrid’.”

The current situation has obviously been difficult for everyone, however few workers have been hit harder than musicians. It’s a challenging time to launch a project such as recording a new album, but Liam is certainly pleased with the end result. He said: “It was recorded during lockdown, which came with some challenges, but I’m delighted with how the songs have turned out. Massive thanks to Barry Frame for recording, producing and playing on the album, to Tommy Hamilton for the photography and to Evan Murphy for the new logo. I’m really excited to get the new songs out there.”

The album is available from the following PayPal link and is priced at £11 (including P&P)
