‘This is a very sad night for Celtic,’ David Potter reacts to the Tierney Transfer

THIS should have been a great night for us. In fact, it has been a disaster with once again Celtic telling us that they do not WANT to progress in Europe. I cannot really go along with all this cant about “he is too big for Scotland” and it is “time” for him to move on. It is never “time” to leave Celtic, and I really can’t honestly say that I wish Kieran Tierney all the best. This is a very sad night for Celtic, and unless the £25 million is re-invested soon and wisely, then I fear for this club.

I am just afraid that with the transfer window still being open, Celtic decide to sell someone else! There will be rejoicing in Govan tonight.

But let’s talk about tonight’s game. The word that comes to mind is “solid”. It could have been a great deal worse. Ironically in view of what happened as the game was ending, Celtic’s worst player by some distance was Bolingoli. I’m not sure that the right back was a great deal better, so we would appear to have a couple of major problems right away.

Yet the team deserves some credit as well for they way that they came back, and James Forrest once again proved his worth to the club (please DON’T SELL HIM tomorrow, Celtic).

Edouard might have had a goal or maybe two near the end, and we would be right to look forward to next Tuesday’s game with a degree of confidence. Confidence, I said, not complacency. There is never any room for that. We have played well enough at home this season already to convince me that we can beat Cluj, but there must be more solid defending.

Any slip up is a great deal more costly at home than it is away from home, and we can all work out the mathematics that TWO errors will have very serious consequences.

The tackle on Scott Brown ought to have been a red card – in fact I cannot think of any Scottish referee letting anyone off with that one – but that is what one has to expect in Europe. Full marks to the way that Scott reacted to that. It was typical of the professionalism of the man.

McGregor and Forrest also played well, although Ryan Christie found this game not to his liking. Oh, please, Celtic, don’t sell any of them!

To return to the awful events of tonight, what does this say about those who run the club?

At a time when some supporters had bankrupted themselves to get there and all other supporters were watching their TV screen (having had to take out a subscription to yet another TV channel which is cashing in on us) or listening to the radio, anxiously counting down the minutes, what are our administrators doing?

They are selling the prize asset, and not, apparently, giving two hoots about how the team is doing in what we were told was a vital match. It looks bad, doesn’t it? It sends out all the wrong signals to the supporters.

Please, Celtic, DON’T SELL ANYONE ELSE tomorrow. I don’t want to support a nursery team, a selling club. I want to support Celtic.

And I am sure that I am not the only person who feels like this.
