Wilfried Nancy’s backroom team which includes Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier have all joined Celtic from Columbus Crew…
The club announced prior to last night’s 1-0 victory over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership that the French coach has officially taken charge at Celtic Park.
Nancy has arrived at Celtic on a two-and-a-half-year contract from MLS side Columbus Crew, coming in five weeks after former Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers stepped down from the role.
Martin O’Neill stepped in admirably as caretaker during the interim spell, but Nancy has finally taken over following more than a month of rumours and uncertainty about Celtic’s vacant managerial position.
Time will tell how Nancy develops Celtic’s playing style.
Regardless of that, it’s refreshing to hear a coach talk about ‘relationships’ and ‘communication’ as central to their perspective.

Alongside him, the 48-year-old has added to the Celtic staff by bringing in assistant coach Kwame Ampadu, assistant and fitness coach Jules Gueguen, and video analyst Maxime Chalier as part of his backroom team.

It still remains uncertain whether Gavin Strachan, Stevie Woods, Stephen McManus, Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham will stay on at the club.

Speaking to Celtic’s official club website after being announced new Hoops manager, Nancy said: “Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, real atmosphere and heart and soul, real high standards and real demands, which I am ready for.”
“I know the history, I know the values of Celtic and I know what is expected of me on this journey. I know what Celtic means to so many people and my No. 1 aim will be simple – to give our fans a strong, exciting, attacking, winning football team they can be so proud of.”
“I look forward to seeing all our fans very soon and I hope we can enjoy some great moments together.”
Nancy’s first game in charge of the Scottish champions will come this Sunday against Hearts at Celtic Park. The new Hoops boss will also have his first taste of European action when Roma come to Glasgow next Thursday in the Europa League. He then has the small matter of potentially winning his first trophy next Sunday at Hampden against St Mirren in the Premier Sports League Cup final.
Exciting times ahead…
