Time’s up Elena – Celtic drop to fifth in table after taking two points from 15

The table doesn’t lie – Celtic FC Women now have no chance of defending their title as they drop to fifth in the table, nine points behind Treble chasing theRangers with just six games to play…

Elena Sadiku’s side last night dropped to  fifth place in SWPL table and now trail league leaders  and treble chasing theRangers Women by nine points heading into the final six matches of what has turned out to be a dreadful the season for Celtic FC Women.

Ahead of last night’s fixtures Swedish manager Elena Sadiku said her team needed to win all their remaining games to have any chance of retaining their title. Even then they needed other results to go their way.

Last night Sadiku’s side drew nothing each with Hibs while theRangers came back from a goal down to beat Glasgow City and leapfrog them to go top of the table. In recent years since turning professional Celtic has taken the title race to the last day every season. Not this time. Hearts beat Motherwell last night to go above Celtic in the table.

It’s Fifth versus Sixth this Sunday

It’s fifth versus sixth when Celtic FC Women play Motherwell at K-Park this Sunday.  Celtic FC Women are not involved in the Women’s Scottish Cup semi-finals while theRangers take on bottom six side Aberdeen in their semi-final having already won the League Cup.

Just two points from the last 15 available is nowhere near good enough from any Celtic team. It is totally unacceptable.

Here’s the Celtic FC Women manager talking to Celtic TV after the match last night.

Just two points from the last 15 available is nowhere near good enough from any Celtic team. It is totally unacceptable and some of the performances have been absolutely dreadful.

A massive re-think is needed at Celtic this summer and a complete overhaul of the staff starting with the manager, whose time is clearly up. This is embarrassing the Hoops territory and it can’t go on any longer.

Thank you Elena for delivering a first ever title last season after coming at the start of January. However in your first full season, with your own signings coming in and others leaving such as Caitlin Hayes, it has clearly not worked out.  It’s time to call it quits with no hard feelings.

Think that is mighty harsh on her she has been given no budget whats so ever compared to the other teams above they have had the board back them more than our own board this is once again down to our own board showing such lack of ambition from grass roots to women football it’s the board that needs an overhaul get rid of the dinasouaurs ang go for young bold and ambitious

    • RPM Celtic fan on

Your right about the board but it wasn’t them that drove out our best player and talked a lot of delusional arrogant pish in every interview and baffled every supporter with her team selections n formations , Hail hail .

I totally agree with you David. The tactics are terrible, most of the players aren’t good enough, the new recruits this season are awful apart from Morgan Cross and Emma Lawton. We are the richest club in the country but have a very small budget. How can Glasgow City and Sevco out spend us ? The powers that be at the club need to decide whether or not they want to take the women’s game seriously. We won the title last year in spite of the board not because. Elena clearly has favourites but they do not produce often enough. I won’t name them so as not to embarrass them. At the end of last season I thought we would move forward but we have gone backwards. Remember the league was won by basically Alonso’s team not Sadiku’s. Some players clearly don’t like her and to allow Hayes to leave was farcical. She was our best player by a country mile.

  3. Go now Elena and save the embarrassment of being sacked. Lots more of that squad should follow her out of the door. It’s been horrible to watch this year.
As in the mens game . If you don’t beat Sevco it’s time to go. HH

  4. The stand out for me is that a lot of the players don’t look anywhere near fit enough. Many are blowing at 60-65 minutes. Slow, lethargic, little creativity and no leaders at all.

    • I agree John but more than that a lot of the players aren’t good enough as well as not fit enough. Too lightweight and easily pushed about especially against the orcs.
Letting big Caitlin leave was suicidal and it just showed you do reap what you sow .
If you don’t beat Sevco you’ve got to go. Manager and playing staff are all culpable.
