Highly rated Celtic goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has today put pen to paper on a loan deal for this season with Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.
The 21 year old Celt will now compete with Deniz Mehmet for the number one spot at East End Park.
Pars manager James McPake said: “Tobi is a player that we’ve been looking at for a while, he’s had a couple of loan spells, playing men’s football and is a very good goalkeeper.
“We’re now comfortable with the two senior goalkeepers we’ve got in the squad. With Deniz and Tobi they’ll be able to push each other on, make each other better and we’ve now got two goalkeepers that are desperate to play.”
Born in London, Oluwayemi has earned call-ups for England at every youth level from under-16s to under-20s.
After stepping up to train with Celtic’s first team, he was on the bench for all eight European matches during the 2021/22 campaign. Last year Oluwayemi had previous loan spells at Cork City in Ireland and Admira Wacker in Austria.
Oluwayemi signed for Celtic in summer 2019 from the Tottenham Academy and was name-checked at the end of last season by Joe Hart as he said his farewells after three wonderful seasons at Celtic. Now 21, Tobi is regarded as being a Celtic keeper of the future.
He also played some minutes in the second half during Celtic’s opening pre-season friendly against Ayr United down at Somerset Park.
Welcome to KDM Group East End Park Tobi Oluwayemi.
