Tom Rogic’s fee could finance deals for a long term target and a crucial signing for next season

The news about Tom Rogic’s departure from Celtic seemed to come from nowhere earlier on today, and there’s no doubt that he’ll be missed.

There will always be a feeling that he had the technique and quality to play at the highest level, but a lack of pace and athleticism has probably stopped him from achieving that.

He was a true game changer from Celtic and you could always rely on him for a goal, but the touted fee of £4m does seem like a fair price:

Thoughts will immediately turn to possible replacements as fans wonder what will happen with that money, and a report from Glasgow Live has suggested that this could be a solid piece of business from Celtic.

They indicate that the Rogic fee will give Celtic the finances to make a couple of moves, the first being a season long loan for Shane Duffy from Brighton.

They claim that the Premier League side will be looking for £2m to allow that to happen, but he would bring some much needed competition and aggression to the Celtic team.

The second addition could be seen as a straight replacement for Rogic, and it’s suggested that Celtic can now renew their interest in Motherwell star David Turnbull.

They confirm that a £3m move fell through last summer, but his injuries and the general financial situation mean he won’t be worth as much in the current market.

He’s shown in the past few games that he looks fit again and his quality is clearly still there, so this could actually work out well from Celtic’s point of view.

Rogic will leave with some great memories and it’s a shame to see him go, but football clubs needs to keep evolving and this could work out well.
