Top of the Table Rodgers looks on the bright side of Livi

CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers preferred to look on the positive side from today’s goalless draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena against a determined, physical Livingston side. The point gained takes Celtic to the top of the league, with Hearts now having lost their early season advantage.

The Rangers won convincingly later in the day at home to Motherwell and have narrowed the deficit they had against the Champions from four points down to two.

“I thought it was a good game,” Brendan said to the media after the match.

“Credit to both teams. We did the basics of the game very well. Livingston really test you with how they play through their throw-ins, deep free-kicks and corners. I thought we stood up to that really well.

“The game opened up a little and we created a number of chances. The goalkeeper was the man of the match and he made three fantastic saves.

“I’ve no complaints about my players. They’ve given everything these last several weeks and you need to give credit to Livingston who have shown why they are a tough team to break down and why they’ve been up towards the top.”

Celtic are now ahead of Hearts on goal difference, although the BBC will no doubt refer to them as being joint top! Celtic also have a game in hand on the Tynecastle club, which is pleasing for Rodgers given the points gap that existed in their favour a while back.

“We haven’t been close enough this season. It started slowly for us. I’m so please with the last seven weeks or so. We were never going to reach the level today.

“Even if we could have scored goals and played with that creativity, it was going to be hard because the surface makes that really difficult.

“You add into that a team who defend really well and it was always going to be a difficult afternoon for us. A point here is a good point so we’ll take the positives from it.

“It’s where we aim to be and this is a positive point for us, especially on the run of games we’ve had.”
